My 9 year old son has been really into STEM learning lately, and it is definitely his thing. So I was really excited to be introduced to The Young Scientists Club Funtastic Robotics Kits for ages 8+. These are definitely right up his alley and I was excited to get one for him to build and play with. There are 4 robots to choose from.
- Hurdle the Robot • Hurdle will stop, back up, and change direction when sensing an obstacle.
- Sunny the Robot • Sunny moves upon receiving artificial and natural light signals.
- Infra the Robot • Infra moves when receiving an IR (Infrared) signal from any home remote control.
- Metali the Robot • Metali buzzes and lights up when metal objects are detected.
“In the past, my own children had received robotics themed products as gifts,” explained Esther Novis, founder and president of The Young Scientists Club and mother of five. “They were always very excited to get started to build their robots, but it would not take long before they would get frustrated because of the lack of clear instructions and the overload of detailed information.”

We received Metali the Robot kit.
My son was able to do most of it himself and only needed a little help from me. But I loved the opportunity to sit down with him and help him. It is a great way to spend time learning together. 
It isn’t very complicated so it won’t overwhelm a child, but interesting enough for your child to feel like they built their own robot.
Metali is a super cool metal detector robot! When you switch it on it will start to move forward and as soon as it detects metal it will stop and beep. There is also a red light on top that lights up.
Another cool feature is that the kit comes with a big poster. On one side there are detailed instructions with pictures that make building the robot very easy. On the other side there is a little race strip where you can time your robot. As well as a bunch of places your child can fill in information about their robot and write down what they have learned and done with their robot.
I am a big fan of these robot kits, I love that my son can learn while also having fun. I highly recommend these kits that help kids build their own robot.
