I remember when I was growing up that the Yomega Yo-Yo’s were supposed to be the top of the line and kids would fight over them. I was happy to accept when I was asked to review the Yomega Kendama Toy. I really think that my kids have become addicted to electronic games and toys. I really like getting them off once and a while and having them do hands on toys and games. The Yomega Kendama Toy is one of those toys that works on hand-eye coordination. I thought it would be fun for them to learn the skill it takes to actually play with it. I am one of those moms that likes to introduce my children to many different things in life in the hopes that it will make them a well rounded individual as they grow up.
We received the Yomega KendamaToy fairly quickly after I accepted the offer to review the toy. I am happy that we brought this into our home. I like seeing my kids doing something other than playing with iPads and watching movies while we are stuck inside during the winter.
The Yomega Kendama Toy is really a simple toy to play with but it is very challenging even for an adult. It has a ball on a string attached to a wooden handle that has 4 different ways for the ball to land on. The ball comes in a lot of different colors. They even have a Pro Series of Yomega Kendama Toys. Each landing option on the wooden stick is a different difficulty level and NONE of them are very easy to accomplish at first. My husband and myself have actually had some fun trying to get the ball to land and stay on the wooden stick. I am happy like I said to have something in the house that is durable and can keep the kids attention for longer than a minute.
“What is a Kendama?
Kendama is a simple in concept and a challenge to master, and has been around since the 16th century! The ball-and-stick skill toy features a wooden handle with two cups and a spike on which players try to catch a colored wooden ball tethered to a string.
Starting in markets such as Spokane, Sacramento and Honolulu, Kendama craze is spreading! Independent toy and hobby shops hold clubs and gatherings where dozens to hundreds of kids convene to share tricks and learn from each other. Even schools are holding after-school Kendama clubs and seeing the benefits of keeping kids hands busy after school with something other than video games or their cell phones. Yomega offers a line of seven different Kendama toys in solids and stripes and are now available at Toys “R” Us, Wal-Mart, Amazon and speciality toy stores in the US and Canada for $15-20.”
