I attended an advance screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“From the best-selling novel comes a captivating mystery. Where the Crawdads Sing tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what actually happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal the many secrets that lay within the marsh.”-©Sony Pictures
I have been excited to see Where the Crawdads Sing. I have not read the book, so I did not know what to expect. I really enjoyed the film.
This movie was beautifully filmed. The cinematography in capturing the scenery and the animals in the marsh was stunning. The main character in the film is a nature artist. The pictures that are drawn by the character are fantastic. This movie is worth watching for the beautiful visuals.
I really enjoyed the storyline. The movie had me guessing the whole time who was behind the murder in the film. I took a friend with me who has read the book. She said that the movie did take out some elements from the book but that overall, she was happy with the adaptation.
I was really impressed with the cast, especially Daisy Edgar-Jones’ performance as Kya. Kya is so complex with being isolated her whole life, but this has made her a very strong woman. Daisy Edgar-Jones perfectly portrays the complex emotions this character has.
Where the Crawdads sing is rated PG-13 “for sexual content and some violence including a sexual assault.” This movie earns its PG-13 rating. There are a few sex scenes and a sexual assault scene. This movie is not for younger kids or even younger teenagers. I would say this movie is appropriate for ages 16 and up.
I really enjoyed Where the Crawdads Sing. It was a beautifully done film. I would watch it again.
