Did you and your family celebrate National Princess Week this April like real princesses and princes? Perhaps your child dressed up in their finest regalia at home or had a photograph taken in the immersive Enchanted Fairies experience. Whatever you chose, we hope your family’s week was filled with fun, fantasy, glitter, wings, and tiaras — but it doesn’t have to stop when April does!
Enchanted Fairies is an immersive experience that brings joy to children by making them the hero of their own stories. From Robin Hoodesque bows and arrows to classic fairy wings and dresses, children can escape to a world that feels entirely their own, with beautiful photography, paintings, and storybooks featuring them to take home and cherish forever.
“As a mother, being able to run a business that gives my children inspiration and confidence is one of the most amazing things I could have ever done,” said Avikova, Co-Founder of Enchanted Fairies. “This week in April should serve as inspiration, but I wholeheartedly believe that celebrating our inner royal vibes should extend to every day of the year.”
What is National Princess Week?
National Princess Week, famously created by Disney, Target, and Julie Andrews in 2012, serves to remind all of us, young and old, that we are royalty and deserve to treat ourselves and others as such.
The week kicks off with new products and ideas, such as games and imagination prompts in which to engage with your children.
“Princess Week is all-inclusive in my mind!” said Avikova. “Just like at Enchanted Fairies, where we encourage every child to come as they are and follow their intuition, Princess Week is not limited to princesses. Let your inner prince, fairy, goddess, or mermaid shine!”
How to Keep the Playful Spirit Year-Round
One of the most important things to remember is that the playful fantasy spirit is not exclusively reserved for children. By bringing an air of whimsy into your life, especially when you have children, you encourage them and others around you to be creative, take themselves less seriously, and find their own inner light.
“There are many ways to become a princess for a day or bring that magic royal energy into your everyday life,” said Avikova. “Create a fort with your children and imagine protecting the castle’s walls from dragons and fiends. Have everyone dress up in their fanciest attire and saunter about with them all day! Wear lipstick, glitter, or a bow in your hair that you love. For lazy days, make some festive snacks and watch magical movies in your favorite pajamas as a family.”
Avikova is chock-full of ideas: Have your children write down or draw a picture of what makes them unique and special to hang on the wall. Cut out flowers or butterflies from construction paper in your child’s favorite colors and stick them all over their bedroom wall.
“It is also meaningful to reinforce the good lessons from fairy tales with your children,” said Avikova. “It can be easy for Princess Week to foster big egos and assumptions that being unique and special means you don’t have to do chores or work hard to have a great life. Discuss with your kids how Ariel sacrificed one thing for another she wanted, or that the amount of time Cinderella worked as a maid for her stepmother was actually to pay her dues before she got the regal life she deserved — rather than punishment for no reason.”
Wise words. There are creative ways to spin the stories we know and love to show the reality of life to our children in playful but honest ways — a fantastic way to finish off this inspirational list with some seriously good teaching opportunities.
