I had a chance to see a screening of Walking With Dinosaurs 3D with my 5-year-old Leah. With the help of computer graphics, we were able to get a unique view into the world of dinosaurs as we traveled along with a herd of Pachyrhinosauruses, a dinosaur. The movie follows the life of Patchi and his older brother Scowler. As a young dinosaur in modern day Alaska, Patchi migrates with the rest of the herd as winter approaches. The journey is filled with treacherous moments such as a forest fire and the Gorgosaurus, a predator, coming after the Patchi, his brother, and the rest of the herd.
I liked seeing different species of dinosaurs than I am used to seeing as the movie was set in the Cretaceous period. As each species was introduced in the movie, the narrator gave some brief summary of it: whether it was a carnivore or herbivore, how big is was, and how it related to the herd of Pachyrhinosaurus. It was educational for children and also helped everyone understand future plot elements in the movie. Also, the movie was FILLED with humor throughout, which made it entertaining and kept us interested. Another thing Leah and I really enjoyed was the 3D graphics throughout the entire movie; it put us right in the middle of action. It was a fun experience to take Leah to.
Voices are done by Justin Long (Patchi), John Leguizamo (the narrator raven), Skyler Stone (Skowler), and Tiya Sircar (Juniper). The movie is directed by Barry Cook and Neil Nightingale.
