Learning is a constant process. No matter how old you get or where you stay, you keep learning new things throughout your life. While most of the learning happens outside classrooms, we cannot deny that academic-based learning is essential.
Without proper classroom knowledge, one cannot step forward in life. Even though online platforms are now the latest rage, most teachers feel that this method has just a 50% chance of success. If you also wish to learn successfully in your classes, here are a few strategies for you.
1. Set a schedule
Every student needs to set a proper schedule to complete their assignments and homework. Whether you are taking online courses or offline ones, it’s necessary to allocate specific hours to certain subjects.
For example, if you feel that you are particularly weak in one or two subjects, dedicate a bit more time to those. Once you stick to your schedule, you’ll find that your stress levels become lower too.
2. Think like your teacher
Sounds tough, right? But many students and teachers claim that this strategy really helps them to learn things quickly. When you are working on a particular assignment or solving a question, think of why your professor has set that question and what kind of answer would a professor expect from their students?
This will not only help you to write more confidently but also predict the kind of questions that might appear for your exams.
3. Try out chunking
Chunking is a strategy that involves taking a big chunk out of a specific task and then dividing it into smaller sections. Instead of staring at your computer screen for hours and hours in online classes, you can try out the chunking method by following a specific pattern.
Work on only one task at a time and when you figure out the solution to that problem, give yourself a small reward. If you wish, you can take a small break after each task too.
4. Review your notes
Even if you’re tired after a hard day at school, it is important to go through your notes and revise whatever you’ve learned that day. This way, the contents of the notes will stay fresh in your mind and you won’t have to scramble for notes before exams.
A study showed that students forget nearly 50% of what they have been taught if they don’t review their notes within 24 hours
5. Teach your friend
This is another excellent strategy to retain information and understand concepts quickly. If your peer seems to be stuck in a chapter or problem, you can take the role of a teacher and explain it to them. Not only will you be helping out someone in need but you will also remember that concept for a long, long time.
One of the most effective ways of learning something is to teach it to someone else. This will also help you to clear your own doubts if any.
6. Make the environment productive
If you want to be productive, you can’t slouch on your chair and work on your assignment while you have Netflix blasting in the background. If you truly wish to learn successfully, you need to make sure the environment is quiet and productive.
Choose an area in your house that is free from distractions and noises. If needed, establish a study room and work there.
7. Seek virtual interaction
Hosting study sessions with your friends or peers is also a great way of sharing ideas and clearing doubts. It’s not always possible for your teacher to help you out, so why not take responsibility for yourselves?
Getting together in a library or at someone’s place is ideal for interaction but if you aren’t allowed to step out, thanks to the pandemic, you can always host virtual conferences.
8. Map out a plan
When your teacher or professor gives you a project, instead of jumping straight into it, map out a plan beforehand. Sit and think for a day or two and write down a few points on how you wish to proceed. This will help you to work smoothly and make sure you complete your work on time.
Starting early can help you get over the hurdle of having your mind blocked.
Over to you…
These eight strategies can come in really handy if you wish to learn quickly and successfully to stay ahead in class!
