I was invited by Disney on an all expenses paid trip in exchange for my coverage of the #ThorRagnarokEvent. All opinions are my own.
I had such a blast when I was in LA for the #ThorRagnarokEvent! (Be sure to check out my experience walking the red carpet at the Thor Ragnarok Premiere. as well as my spoiler-free review of Thor Ragnarok.) As a part of the event we were able to attend the Thor Ragnarok Press Conference with with Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”), Mark Ruffalo (“Bruce Banner / Hulk”), Tom Hiddleston (“Loki”), Cate Blanchett (“Hela”), Tessa Thompson (“Valkyrie”), Jeff Goldblum (“Grandmaster”), Karl Urban (“Skurge”), Rachel House (“Topaz”), Director Taika Waititi (also “Korg”) and Producer and President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige.
Amazing list of talent right?! So fantastic. Okay hang on a second, I was going to wait until the end of my post to share this, but I just can’t wait. I have to tell you that after the press conference ended, I got to meet Chris Hemsworth and he even took a selfie with me!!!!! Squeal! I was on cloud nine. Seriously! Isn’t he so dreamy as he stares into the lens of my camera?! And he is such a nice guy in person.
Okay now that I got that out of my system, back to the press conference. I was super excited as I waited with anticipation for the conference to start.
The cast and creators entered the conference hall and it was an instant energy boost. They were all so very nice and also really funny. We were all laughing and I loved seeing how they all interact with each other. Making jokes, poking fun at each other, and you could also feel how much they care for one another. It is an incredible group of talent to have in one room and I wanted to share a few of my favorite quotes from the conference.
Speaking of filming Thor Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth shared“It was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve ever had on a set. And a film that I feel the proudest of, just because of this whole team, and the collaboration, and fun we had.”
When talking about Taika who Directed this movie, Rachel House said: “It’s been wonderful to see Taika so calmly and easily step into the helm of such a big, awesome film.”
Mark Ruffalo was asked about doing a stand-alone Hulk movie and this was his response “I would love to do a Hulk movie, and I think we all would love to do one. Over a year ago, Kevin had asked me to come over and have a script meeting. And basically he sat me down and he said, ‘What would you like to do if you had a stand-alone Hulk movie?’ And I said, ‘I’d like to do this, this, and this and then it would end like this.’ And he’s like, ‘I love that. Let’s do that over the next few movies, starting with Thor 3 and carry it on through Avengers 3 and Avengers 4.’ And so that’s my stand-alone Hulk movie.”
Since Jeff Goldblum is new to the Marvel Universe, he told us “Joining a cast like this is a dream come true.” He also said “I like the character, of course, and the opportunities in the character.”
“It was hugely enjoyable for me. And apart from working with these guys, obviously, the chance to finally, in my deep middle age, to get fit, and to wear that much lycra was really exciting for me.” Cate Blanchett told us about being in Thor Ragnarok as Hela.
Tessa Thompson, speaking of stepping into the role for her character Valkyrie, said: “I thought the particulars of Valkyrie had more to do with mass and size. For example, I thought, ‘Oh, I’m short,’. Or like, ‘I’m not buff enough.’ You know, she’s arguably as strong as Thor. How do I stand next to a person like Chris Hemsworth and feel like that’s true? So I didn’t think so much about satisfying Norse mythology, it’s mystifying, and fantastical, and glorious, and also very confusing and doesn’t make a lot of sense, you know.”
Tom Hiddleston joked “I did ask Taika if I could get a haircut, as well. But his answer was a quick No” and we all had a good laugh at that.
Karl Urban shared about getting fit for this film. “The working out schedule was rather intense. In fact, Taika came to me and he said, ‘Listen, you need to tone it down. You can’t be bigger than Chris, okay?’ So I did, you know.” he said joking. Then he said “I just had the most amazing time working on this film. I feel very blessed to be a part of this family, and to have had the opportunity to work with Taika, and for him to be so well supported by the team at Marvel, and for them to have the courage and the bravery to allow him to just do his thing.”
Kevin Fiege told us about a little fun addition to the movie for comic book fans, he said “There are previous Grandmaster champions that we see, and one for Hulk is being constructed. Those are all sort of Easter eggs for the deeper comic universe – that may or may not ever show up in the cinematic universe, but we thought it’d be fun to celebrate.”
Like I said, it was such a cool experience to be in the room with all of that amazing talent!
