I attended an advanced screening for my review. All opinions are my own.
“Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Love and Thunder” finds the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a search for self-discovery. But Thor’s retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.” –©Marvel Studios
As I have said before, I love the Marvel films. I loved the last Thor film entry, Thor: Ragnarok and I have been very excited to see Thor: Love and Thunder. Although I didn’t love it as much as the previous film, I had a lot of fun watching Thor: Love and Thunder.
I thought the movie had a fun storyline. It has the same vibe as the previous Thor film had. I was laughing quite a bit watching the film. I will say though that some of the jokes felt a bit forced. I did like that this movie had a bit more of a romantic storyline than some of the other Marvel films.
Once again, the cast was fantastic. You can tell that Chris Hemsworth is having an absolute blast playing Thor. I thought that Christian Bale was a great addition as the villain, Gorr the God Butcher. For me, the real MVP was Natalie Portman’s return as Jane Foster/the Mighty Thor. I was so glad to see her back and it was fun to see her in the Mighty Thor role. There are also a lot of fun cameos in the film which I will not spoil.
Visually, this movie was fantastic. The visual effects during the fight scenes were great. One thing that I really enjoyed is how the film’s creative team used different color schemes to advance the film’s plot. The color direction used for the film is very artistic. There are several sequences that are so beautifully done in terms of color. The movie also has fantastic musical soundtrack. The filmmakers made great decisions in the songs that they used throughout the film.
Content wise, this movie is rated PG-13 “for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, language, some suggestive material and partial nudity.” I would say that the language and violence content of this movie is very similar to other films in the Marvel franchise. There is some partial nudity in the film, you do see a naked rear end.
Overall, I enjoyed Thor: Love and Thunder. It is a good addition to the MCU. I can recommend it.
