I attended an advance screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“Now that The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is full up with its long-term residents, co-managers Muriel Donnelly (Maggie Smith) and Sonny Kapoor (Dev Patel) have a dream of expansion, and they’ve found just the place: The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. With plans underway, Evelyn and Douglas (Judi Dench and Bill Nighy) venture into the Jaipur workforce, wondering where their regular breakfast dates will lead. Meanwhile, Norman and Carol (Ronald Pickup and Diana Hardcastle) navigate the swirling waters of an exclusive relationship, as Madge (Celia Imrie) juggles two very eligible suitors, and recent arrival Guy Chambers (Richard Gere) finds a muse in Sonny’s mother, Mrs. Kapoor (Lillete Dubey) for his next novel. As his marriage to Sunaina (Tina Desai), the love of his life, quickly approaches, Sonny finds his plans for the new hotel making more claims on his time than he has available. Perhaps the only one who may know the answers is Muriel, the keeper of everyone’s secrets. As the big day nears, family and guests alike find themselves swept up in the irresistible intoxication of an Indian wedding.” — (C) Fox Searchlight
I love the first movie in this series, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and I have been so excited to see the sequel. My husband and I loved The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
One of the reasons this movie is so great is because of the awesome cast. With all of this wonderful and talented actors, you would only expect the best. They all have comfortably fit back into their roles from the first film. Richard Gere was also a great addition to the cast. No specific actor stood out to me. This was definitely an ensemble film.
Just like the first one, I love how the filmmakers show and portray the culture in India. It was fun to see an Indian wedding in the film. It was very pretty and seemed like a lot of fun.
This sequel is definitely more comical than the first film. Although the first film was funny as well, it had some more serious moments. The sequel is not quite as serious. My husband, the audience, and I were laughing quite a bit during this film. These actors definitely are quite witty.
Although this movie is rated PG, I would not necessarily call it a family film. This is more of a PG movie for adults. A lot of the humor and messages of the film are not on a child’s level. Younger viewers may be bored. This would be a great movie for a date night.
I loved The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and would definitely recommend it. I will be purchasing it when it is released on Bluray.
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel gets bragging rights!!!
