I was invited on an all expenses paid trip to LA by Sony to cover the #Ghostbusters movie, all opinions are my own.
All of my posts this week have been leading up to the big reveal…how I felt about this movie. The blogger group that I was a part of in LA was able to see an advanced screening and I must say there was not a bad thing from anyone to say about this movie.
The new #Ghostbusters starring Melissa McCarthy who plays Abby-the fun loving scientist out to prove to the world Ghosts do exist, Kate McKinnon who plays Holtzman- the woman who knows her gadgets and loves to create new fun toys to bust those ghosts, Kristen Wigg who plays Erin the science professor who really believes in Ghosts but doesn’t want other’s to find out…(secret book anyone?) and then there is Leslie Jones who plays Patty, she is a secret ghost finder who happens upon the Ghostbusters and wants to just start bustin Ghosts. Oh and don’t let me forget the sweet, lovable and incredibly not smart Kevin played by Chris Hemsworth. He may be dumb but he is a riot and too cute to fire!
I have to say that I was incredibly excited to see this movie and a little skeptical. You see I grew up watching the Ghostbusters. I watched all the originals and even the Ghostbusters cartoon! I also have shown that movie to my girls several times and they loved it. I told my husband going in, ok this is either going to be really good or really really not good. Well I am so happy to announce it was incredible! I remember jumping at some parts, laughing my head off, really relating to the Ghostbustin girls and in the end decided my 3 girls were going to be just like these incredible women.
I couldn’t believe how funny this movie was. One of the parts I loved the best was when the 3 ghostbusters (Abby, Holtzman and Erin) were interviewing Kevin played by Chris Hemsworth for the Secretary job. He of course was dumb as rocks and Erin couldn’t keep from staring and giggling. This was one of the scenes that Ivan Reitman said they had so many funny takes and the girls just ran with it and they ended with a really great scene. I honestly have never laughed so much in my life.
I also loved the scene when the girls come across a ghost in the Subway station….well you will just have to see the movie to see what I mean! Now I was really debating on taking my girls, the movie is PG-13 and one of the things I loved was that there was hardly any bad language. BUT I would really recommend ages 12 and up (depending on the child) there are some pretty scary parts that I think my girls would really be scared from. The opening scene is a little intense, so I really would not recommend taking anyone under 12 especially if they get spooked easily.
If you are on the fence about seeing this movie, GO, don’t walk, RUN to see this movie! I am telling you, it’s my new favorite movie and I loved it!
Nicole was also able to see an advanced screening and here is what she said:
“I will be honest, I was skeptical about Hollywood making a new Ghostbusters film. I love the women they decided to cast in the film, plus I was thrilled that Chris Hemsworth was cast as the nerdy, dumb secretary. Because of this, I was willing to give the new movie a chance. I was surprised how much I enjoyed watching the new Ghostbusters movie. I loved all of the references to the original films plus all the fun cameos featured in the film. I thought that the whole cast was fantastic. They are the reason that this movie works. By far, my favorite was Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzman. I loved how quirky and comedic her character is. She steals most of the scenes in the show. I think this Ghostbusters film is a great introduction of the movie franchise to the newer generation. I really liked that this film did not take itself too seriously. It is meant to be just a fun movie to watch. I had a great time watching Ghostbusters and would gladly watch it again!”
I am so excited to take my husband and eventually my girls to see this amazing movie!
“Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.”
