“Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.” (c) Sony
I have been very excited to see The Monuments Men. The big selling point for me was the fantastic cast of actors, especially George Clooney and Matt Damon. My husband and I really liked this movie.
The thing that I really liked is that this was based on a true story. I had no idea that there was a group of men who were trying to protect and retrieve stolen art during World War 2. I really like that a movie was made about how important art and other cultural treasures are. I really liked seeing all the different art pieces in the film.
During the movie, you could tell that all the male actors had a lot of fun making this movie together. Although there are serious moments in the film, there are plenty of funny moments to balance it all out. By far the two funniest actors were Bill Murray and Bob Balaban as Richard and Preston. Their characters spend a majority of the movie together and their interactions and banter with each other were so great.
Overall, content-wise, this movie was pretty good. There was not any graphic violence or a lot of bad language. One thing that made this movie PG-13 was some of the artwork shows some nudity and there is some language.
I really liked The Monuments Men for its great story and great acting. It is a great film.
