I attended an advanced screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS,” an international best-seller, takes place on a remote Australian island in the years following World War I, where a lighthouse keeper and his wife are faced with a moral dilemma when a boat washes ashore with a dead man and a two-month-old infant. When they decide to raise the child as their own, the consequences of their choice are devastating.”-©Dreamworks Pictures
I love historical, romantic films so I was very interested in seeing THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS. I did not love THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS but I still thought there were some very positive things about the movie.
The acting in this movie was fantastic. Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Rachel Weisz were exceptional in their roles. Of the three, Alicia Vikander was definitely the stand out for me. She definitely portrayed the emotional performance that was necessary for her role.
This movie was gorgeous to watch. THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS was filmed in Australia and New Zealand. Some of the scenes were so breathtaking because of the scenery. It was a pretty film to watch.
The plot of this movie is pretty deep and sad. For me personally, it was too much. I normally can watch movies that are not necessarily happy but I really struggled with this one. I did like the great amount of love between the husband and the wife in this film. I do think other people may do better with the story of the film. Other people in my screening appeared to enjoy the film more than me. I would recommend taking tissues when you watch this movie.
If you like deep, romantic, tearjerker movies, THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS may be a movie for you to check out!
THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS is now playing in theaters. It is rated PG-13 “for thematic material and some sexual content.”
