I attended an advanced screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS, from Amblin Entertainment. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.” ©Universal Pictures
I have been excited to see the film THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS. I thought that it looked like a silly family movie. After seeing the film, I have mixed feelings about it. There were many things that I liked but there were also some things that I did not love about the film.
I loved the cast in this movie. I am a big fan of both Jack Black and Cate Blanchett. I thought that they were fantastic together and played off each other well.
I thought that the visual effects and cinematography were fantastic. This movie has a very gothic feel which I enjoyed. It is a great film for some Halloween fun.
This movie had a great message about grief, loss, and the importance of family. I liked that the talked about some deep subject matter on a level that kids could understand.
The main thing that I did not like about the film was that it was definitely a lot darker and scarier than I thought it was going to be. I think it is going to be too scary for a lot of little kids. Older kids will probably be okay but I recommend parents seeing this movie before taking little kids. In my opinion, this movie had a bit too much crude humor as well.
Overall, I thought there were a lot of good things about THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS but I am not sure if I would watch it again.
