My name is Mayra and I am the owner of The Happy Bear Company, an Edmonton Canada home based sewing business. My goal is to make baby accessories, purses, totes, baby bags and cloth diapers using mostly natural fibers, leather, metal and recyclable materials.

I had sewn in the past for myself and only dreamed of starting a home based sewing business. When people started noticing my work and asking for me to sew for them, I decided to try it out! After starting the business in September 2016, it did not take long for me to start selling items and to receive clothes alteration jobs locally. I opened up my Etsy shop in December 2016 to sell online.

I work part time from my home sewing shop. I have a few machines to serge, sew and embroider. I design and sew all items myself.

Babies are amazing, wonderful little creatures. I cannot wait to have my newest addition in my arms in a matter of weeks. But… they sure are messy. =) Funky gunk coming out of both ends. But I am very prepared to handle this with help from The Happy Bear Company! I just adore the homemade baby wipes and swaddle blanket Mayra sent me!

How ADORABLE are all the patterns? I just love them. If you’re gonna wipe up gunk, it might as well be on a cute cloth! Her baby wipes are obviously very well made- the stitching is excellent and they are the perfect weight and size. I think they will be very multi-functional as well- of course they will be fantastic for baby wipes in their traditional sense, but I also think I will use them for wiping baby’s hands and mouth after eating, or for washcloths in the bath, or snot wipers once winter comes around in Minnesota. =) I love fun fabrics and prints, and I know that each time I use one of these fun wipes I will smile!

I also cannot wait to use the great swaddle blanket! I love that it is “reversible” with two fabrics- a really cute nautical theme, and then a simple grey gingham pattern. It is also obviously very well made, it is clear that Mayra puts a lot of love into her products! It’s a great weight and size, perfect for swaddling, as a stroller blanket, and all kinds of uses around the house and on the go! The fabric is so soft and cuddly, your little one is sure to snuggle right up in it!
