I was able to go see an advanced screening of The Duff for this review.
Once in awhile I really need to just get out for a girls night and I couldn’t wait to go see the new movie The Duff with one of my friends.
The Duff stars Mae Whitman as Bianca, Robbie Amell as Wesley, Bella Thorne as Madison, Bianca Santos as Casey, Skyler Samuels as Jess , Nick Eversman as Toby, and some other really terrific actors.
Bianca is a girl who has 2 best friends Casey and Jess who just happen to be some very popular girls in school. Bianca dresses how she wants, acts how she wants and doesn’t really care what others think until….she heads to a party with her 2 besties and her neighbor Wesley (Football Star & all around great looking guy) approaches her and let’s her know a little secret. Bianca is what is known as a Duff….Designated Ugly Fat Friend. Bianca is absolutely appalled and keeps saying I am NOT the Duff..until she realizes that it just might be true. Now Bianca knows that she is not Fat but what being a Duff actually means is that she is the less appealing one then her 2 friends. Wesley’s ex girlfriend Madison decides that she is basically out to get Bianca because she thinks that there is more than friendship between Bianca and Wesley. Toby comes into the picture as Bianca’s crush whom she can’t say 2 words to because she is too tongue tied….
“Bianca (Mae Whitman) is a content high school senior whose world is shattered when she learns the student body refers to her as ‘The DUFF’ (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) to her prettier, more popular friends (Skyler Samuels & Bianca Santos). With her universe turned upside down, she ignores words of wisdom from her favorite teacher (Ken Jeong) and enlists Wesley (Robbie Amell), a slick but charming jock, to help set her apart from the pack and erase her label forever. In doing so, she hopes to land her crush Toby (Nick Eversman), and find the confidence to overthrow the school’s ruthless label maker Madison (Bella Thorne) by reminding everyone that no matter what people look or act like, we are all someone’s DUFF…and that’s totally fine.” (The Duff website)
I absolutely love the message at the end of the movie and love the conclusion that Bianca finally realizes!
This movie is rated PG-13 for for crude and sexual material throughout, some language and teen partying. I wouldn’t recommend taking kids less than 13 years of age for sure. This was a really fun movie and you can learn more at www.theduffmovie.com!
