When you start to plan your trip to Disneyland you will want to take into consideration the best times of year and days to visit the park.
BEST TIMES OF YEAR TO VISIT:
Disneyland recommends that these are the dates that typically have the lowest rate of visitors during the year:
- Mid-January through mid-March (except for President’s Day Weekend)
- Mid-April through mid-May (except during Spring Break)
- Mid-September through mid-November (except during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort)
If you visit during these less crowded months, keep in mind that the park hours will be shorter and there will be less shows and entertainment to see. Fantasmic and the Fireworks usually only take place on the weekends during these times. Also keep in mind that more rides will be closed for refurbishment during these times as well.
Disneyland’s peak season is June through August. While the parks will be more crowded, there will also be longer park hours and more shows and entertainment going on. And because it’s peak season there usually won’t be many rides that are closed.
Any school holiday or 3 day weekend holiday will be more crowded.
BEST DAYS TO VISIT:
Week days are a lot less crowded than weekends. The best days being Tuesday through Thursday.
Weekends are always the busiest days to visit. Sundays are generally less crowded than Saturdays (with the exception of weekends where Monday is a holiday).
CHOOSE WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU:
If your work/kids school schedule will allow it I recommend visiting in the less crowded times of the year. I went to Disneyland the beginning of May last year (2013) and visited the parks on the weekdays. We never waited more than 20 minutes in line (with the exception of the Cars ride which steadily had a wait time of 60+ minutes). We mostly walked on or waited only 5-10 minutes for each ride.
If you want longer park hours, more entertainment and almost all rides to be open then you will have to visit when the parks are more crowded.
If you don’t mind shorter park hours, less entertainment, and several ride closures then you can take advantage of visiting when the parks are less crowded.
