I was invited on an all-expenses paid trip to attend the press junket for this movie. All opinions are my own.

While I was in LA, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Producer John Cohen to talk about the film.
What was the message you wanted to relay to audiences through this movie?
John Cohen– The movie is first and foremost a comedy, we want to entertain and make people laugh, that is our first goal. But it’s always important in animated movies to have a message, especially when a movie is playing to kids around the world. And for us, the message of teamwork and coming together to work with someone or others that are different than you. There are a lot of things about birds and pigs and their world views that are different and yet they find common ground and they work together. I think that is an important message right now for everyone to be thinking about.
This movie is faced paced comedy with joke after joke, how were you able to make that happen?
John- We have some really really funny people that worked on this movie, our director, our story board artists, our writers, our designers, they are just some of the funniest people I have ever had the opportunity to work with. And our cast is filled with incredible improvisational comedians. And so every one of them is not just a great actor, they are great writers. They add so much great comedy in their improvisation and we have this amazing embarrassment of riches to choose from when we listen to everything. It makes the experience of making a movie a lot of fun, and contributes to why the movie is as funny as it is.
How did you come up with the storyline for the sequel?
John- The first Angry Birds movie was the game brought to life. It was honoring all the key things that people liked about the game. It’s been downloaded 4 billion times, which is such a crazy number of people who know and have played the games. With the second movie we knew audiences were going to expect more of the same, more birds versus pigs battling each other and we really wanted to surprise people and do something unexpected. And that is what led to what think is a big idea, which is that there is a new villain and it’s villains that they’ve never met before on an island that they’ve never been to or heard of. The birds and the pigs realize that they have no other choice but to team up and taker the villains on. It’s not unlike when the Avenger came together for the first time, or the Guardians of the Galaxy, they had a lot of egos, trust issues, big friction and that led to a lot of our fun comedy.
What is your favorite part of the movie?
John- I love Silver. Silver is a character that I just think is wonderful, and so she is one of my favorite parts of the movie. I love the hatchlings, they are these three little girls that go on this mission.
