My family really loves to read and one of our favorites is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle’s. I was really excited when we were asked to participate in the 45 year celebration with 45 other bloggers and were given The Very Hungry Caterpillar Board Book to review.
“2014 marks the 45th anniversary of Eric Carle’s pre-school classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The anniversary will be officially celebrated on the annual “Very Hungry Caterpillar Day” which takes place every year on the first day of spring (March 20th).”
“Since its publication in 1969, 36 million copies of the book have sold worldwide and it has been published in 55 languages. That year the book was also named one of the best children’s books of the year by The New York Times, and it has since become a beloved, must-own classic. Today, every 30 seconds, somewhere in the world, a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar is sold.”
My girls have read this story many, many times and they keep going back to it. In fact as I read it to them I remember when I was in Kindergarten my Kindergarten Teacher Mrs. Riske would read it to the class and I always remember how much I loved this wonderful book. I’m so happy that I can share it with my girls too. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is about a little caterpillar that eats his way through the book and becomes a beautiful butterfly. I asked my girls what their favorite part was and Leah my 5 year old said it was when he became big and fat from eating too much and Charlotte my 2 year old said she loved the butterfly and all of the colors in the book.
Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar book is one of the best Children’s Books that I have come across. I love that after 45 years that it is still a cherished book, especially by my family.
