Letter names and sounds are important literacy skills to learn. I am always looking for fun ways to teach these skills to my cute kindergartners. I was excited to receive the Stacker Crackers Picture Alphabet game from Learning Resources for review.
My first impression of this product was great. I loved the packaging that the Stacker Crackers game comes in. It looks like a snack box! The instructions are on the side of the box where the nutrition facts would be. I love how realistic the game pieces look. The pieces look like real crackers. I also liked that they used real photograph pictures instead of drawings. This makes it easier for the children to know what the picture is. It also helps children learn the vocabulary for objects they do not know.
My students had a lot of fun playing the Stacker Crackers game with me. It is really easy to play. It does need some adult supervision though. The way it is played is that the student pick a cracker from the game box. On the back, there is a picture. If the child can correctly identify the beginning sound or letter of the picture, they get to keep the game piece. The goal is to see who can stack their crackers the highest. If the crackers fall over though, they have to put the pieces in the discard pile. There is also a special card called ‘stack attack.’ If the child draws that piece, they have to put all their pieces in the discard pile.
My students loved the game pieces. They really liked that the pieces looked like real crackers. They thought it was fun to stack the crackers on top of each other and see how tall their cracker towers could get. As a teacher, I loved that it was fun and helped the student learn letter and sound recognition.
This game would be perfect to have at home with younger children. It is a great education game in helping your children learn phonics and important reading skills. It is a simple and easy game to play.
I am excited to use the Stackers Crackers Picture Alphabet game more in my classroom to help my students with their reading skills.
