SafeSleep was founded by three individuals – a pediatrician, a product safety designer, and an interior designer – who all experienced the loss of a loved one to SIDS and decided to take action and create a better solution. Together, they created the SafeSleep BreatheThrough Crib Mattress to address the risk infants face when they roll onto their tummies in the middle of the night on a fiberfill surface. “We felt compelled to do something to help other babies sleep safely; we knew there had to be a better way. With our SafeSleep crib mattress, parents don’t need to feel helpless anymore. Back is best for safe sleep but if baby rolls to their stomach and sleeps face down, the design allows them to breathe normal airflow through the mattress. Having this peace of mind as a mom and grandmother is truly priceless.” – Julie Andreae, Co-Founder of Secure Beginnings
The two-piece, hygienic SafeSleep Breathe-Through Crib Mattress includes a crib base and an air permeable firm crib mattress sleep surface. A bed of air is layered between the mattress and base, which allows baby to breathe in oxygen-rich air in case he or she rolls into a face-down position.
If you’re a parent, you’ve undoubtedly felt the fear of SIDS– the amount that is unknown is what makes it so scary, I believe, because you can do everything “right” with safe sleep practices and still find yourself in this terrible tragedy. Three people, a pediatrician, a product safety designer, and an interior designer, who all experienced the devastating loss of SIDS, decided to figure out something that can reduce the risk. Together, they invented the SafeSleep BreatheThrough Crib Mattress. It is a mattress that is both firm and breathe-through. It is truly amazing! I learned a lot on their website about what they believe to be the problem with regular mattress’ and how babies can be breathing in CO2 instead of Oxygen. The Secure Beginnings mattress is made from safe materials that allow for breathability- the bottom portion is a wood box with holes on the sides that keep air flowing throughout. On top there is a mesh-like fabric that rests on top of the box that is breathable and yet a safe, firm surface for sleeping- it’s almost like a hammock, but with the perfect amount of tension with the secure metal bars on each side. Even though back sleeping is still recommended with this mattress, you don’t have to fear your baby rolling over in his crib and then being unsafe- baby will be able to breathe oxygen rich air on his back or tummy thanks to SafeSleep BreatheThrough Crib Mattress! It was really easy to put together and get in the crib, just a few simple steps:
I have to admit that I love that it is not only safe, but aesthetically pleasing as well! It looks great in the crib. The sleep portion is also easy to take off (thank you!) and machine washable, so keeping this clean is a breeze.
Peace of mind when it comes to the safety of your child is PRICELESS, and I definitely feel better knowing my baby boy is sleeping on the safest possible mattress on the market.
