When it comes to my baby girl’s safety I won’t compromise. So since she had outgrown her infant seat I needed to start looking for another car seat for her. I was introduced to the Safety 1st Advance 70 Air + Convertible Car Seat and was immediately impressed by all the safety features. Safety 1st offered to send this car seat to me for this review.
This week is actually child passenger safety week, so this is the perfect time to share with you this great new car seat from Safety 1st.
“The Safety 1st Advance 70 Air + Convertible Car Seat features our new Air Protect + to keep children from 5-70 pounds safer in the car. Air Protect + combines the advanced protection of our Air Protect® cushion system with patented GCell HX™ foam designed with hexagonal shapes for superior protection around the torso. TOGETHER they provide full body side impact protection.”
When the box arrived I was so excited to get it out and use it for baby girl. The main thing I love is that I get to keep her rear facing. Even though she is over one she still doesn’t weigh enough to face forward.
Here she is trying it out (inside the house), and I got all the buckles adjusted to her size. Adjusting the 5 point harness is a breeze! There is no rethreading necessary (which I love). You just squeeze the lever at the top of the seat and adjust up or down. Then you can tighten or loosen the belt by pressing the button on the bottom and pulling the strap. It’s really simple.
I love that this convertible car seat can be used from a tiny 5 lb. baby to a 70 lb. child! These are the exact specs: Forward-facing Weight Range: 22-70 lbs, Forward-facing Height Range: 34-52. Rear-facing Weight Range: 5-40 lbs, Rear-facing Height Range: 19-40.
It even comes with a padded seat insert for a baby.
Initially I was worried about how it would fit in my car as a rear facing car seat since it is quite large, but it fits great without a problem (I have a Subaru Legacy).
The installation was really easy. I just threaded the latch belt through the green area (see image below) then latched them to my vehicle and made sure the leveling was correct. To switch it forward facing you just thread the latch belt through the blue section. You can also use this car seat with the seat belt instead of the latch belt if you have an older model car and it doesn’t have latches.
I really love that it reclines so you can have it at the level that works best for your baby and your car (and it has clear instructions on the side that tell you the range you can recline within safely.
It is really easy to recline, you just pull on the red tab on
“In addition to Air Protect +, the Advance 70 Air + uses a steel-reinforced metal frame for extra stability and includes a 4-position recline for an optimal fit to your vehicle. We’ve also included color-coded belt paths and installation labels to help you install it quickly and correctly, which means less time getting it into your car and more time to enjoy the ride.”
