“Rock of Ages” tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Twisted Sister and more.
I have been looking forward to seeing Rock of Ages ever since I saw the film’s first trailer. I love all the music that is in it plus I was wondering if Tom Cruise could sing and pull off a rock star. Plus, I love Adam Shankman as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance and his film Hairspray. I was definitely ready to see this movie.
My favorite thing about this movie was that the music was absolutely amazing!! With smash hits from Def Leppard, Journey, Poison, and more, I did not expect less. All of the actors pulled off these great songs and they all performed and sang them well. For me, the biggest surprise of the movie was Tom Cruise’s performance as Stacie Jaxx. Tom Cruise definitely embodied the role of a drunk, not always mentally there, rock star. He honestly gave his all to this role. He was probably having the time of his life. I also thought that Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand were so funny in this movie. They are definitely an odd couple but worked very well together. I normally cannot stand Russell Brand but he was great in this movie. My one disappointment of the movie was that Julianne Hough did not dance very much. There is some really fun dancing in this movie. After seeing her amazing talent on Dancing with the Stars, I was hoping they would take advantage of how fabulous she dances but she hardly does in this film. Her performance was good, I just wished she danced more.
One thing I will say is that Adam Shankman’s last movie, Hairspray, was more of a family movie with its PG rating. Rock of Ages deserves its PG-13 rating and it is not appropriate for younger children or middle aged kids. This movie is for mom and dad. The movie has a lot of sexual content and at times, it was pretty raunchy.
I had a lot of fun rocking out to the music of Rock of Ages. If you can get past or do not mind movies with some sexual content, this is a movie that you cannot miss because the music is so AWESOME!!!
Rock of Ages is rated PG-13 and is now in theaters. For more information about the film, you can go to the Warner Bros.’s official website for the film.
