I attended an advanced screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“In the year 2045, the real world is a harsh place. The only time Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) truly feels alive is when he escapes to the OASIS, an immersive virtual universe where most of humanity spends their days. In the OASIS, you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone-the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who left his immense fortune and total control of the Oasis to the winner of a three-part contest he designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends-aka the High Five-are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS.”-©Warner Bros.
I have been very interested in seeing READY PLAYER ONE. I have thought that the trailers were so cool. I really enjoyed watching READY PLAYER ONE.
I thought that the storyline was a lot of fun and I was engaged the whole time. I was never bored and thought that the movie flowed well. This movie did make me think about technology and how immersed we are in it. I liked the message in the movie about how we need to make sure we are connecting with people in the real world and not just in the digital world.
Visually, this movie was fantastic. The special effects were awesome and were definitely a highlight of the film. I had the opportunity to see the movie in IMAX 3D and really had fun watching it in this format.
One of my favorite parts of READY PLAYER ONE were the references to many different pop culture icons and films. Some of these included Back to the Future, Alien, and more. I am sure that I did not catch them all the first time so I think it will be fun to find more when I see the movie again.
READY PLAYER ONE is rated PG-13 “for sci-fi action violence, bloody images, some suggestive material, partial nudity, and language.” This movie deserves its rating. I was surprised how much language there was in the movie. The violence is video game style violence and there was quite a bit of suggestive material. I personally do not think that this movie is for little kids, I would leave them home. This movie would probably be appropriate for older teenagers and adults.
Overall, I had a lot of fun watching READY PLAYER ONE. I liked it and I would definitely watch it again.
READY PLAYER ONE gets bragging rights!!
