I attended an advance screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in this reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield in order to conquer the undead once and for all.”- Sony
I love Pride and Prejudice. I was very interested in seeing it with a zombie twist. After watching it, I do not think that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will be a movie for everyone.
The acting is great in this film. Lily James was great as the classic Elizabeth Bennett but with a hard core zombie killer twist. For me, the major stand out was Matt Smith as Mr. Collins. He definitely made Mr. Collins more flamboyant than he has ever been on screen before.
I was surprised how gory this movie was. I knew that I was walking into a zombie movie but with it being such a classic story, I was not expecting as much violence and gore as there was. In my opinion, this movie focused more on the zombies than the classic Pride and Prejudice storyline, although it was still cleverly incorporated.
I would recommend not taking little kids to this movie. It is pretty gory, intense, and there are many disturbing images. It earns its PG-13 rating.
Overall, if you like zombie movies or zombie television shows, you are the audience Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is intended for. You will enjoy this zombie tale with a classic, romantic twist. If you are not into the zombie thing, just watch your favorite version of Pride and Prejudice again.
