I attended an advanced screening of this movie for my review. All opinions are my own.
“Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.” (C) Fox
My husband and I were very excited for this movie release. We got to see it at an early screening last night, and I am happy to say it did not disappoint. My husband said after the movie, “It was creepily suspenseful”. I agree. It had some really scary and creepy moments where I got some serious chills on my neck. It also kept me on the edge of my seat and as I mom I needed them to get this little girl back. It did a good job of getting me invested in the family and the well being of this cute little girl. I even had tears in my eyes during several scenes.
I really enjoyed the effects and thought they were good. As far as it being a re-make, I thought it was done very well. The filmmakers did a good job of recreating an old classic scary movie. It had a lot of things that were the same as the original while also introducing new elements and story line so it didn’t feel like you were watching the 1982 movie. I enjoyed it and would recommend seeing it if you are a scary movie fan.
Poltergeist is rated PG-13 for intense frightening sequences, brief suggestive material, and some language. You will want to leave the kiddos at home for this one. It is too scary for kids. I wouldn’t recommend bringing any child under 13 and even then I would asses how well your 13 + year old handles scary content. When in doubt, see it first then decide if your child is ready.
Poltergeist is now playing in theaters!
