I attended an advanced screening of this film. All opinions are my own.

I am not very knowledgeable about Pokémon. I have been excited to see Detective Pikachu because I thought it looked entertaining. Also, because I loved that Ryan Reynolds was voicing Pikachu. Pokémon Detective Pikachu was a fun movie.
Visually, this movie looked fantastic. All the little Pokémon creatures were animated great and integrated very well into the live action environment.
This movie was really funny. There was a lot of laughing in my screening of the film. Some of the jokes were inappropriate though but most the little kids didn’t understand them.
The glue that really held this film together for me was Ryan Reynolds’ vocal performance. He brought a lot of humor, cuteness, and heart to the role.
I do feel like this movie was definitely made for the die hard Pokémon fans. I didn’t know what some of the little creatures were so I was a bit confused. The filmmakers did explain some of them so that did help.
This movie is rated PG “for action/peril, some rude and suggestive humor, and thematic elements.” I did think there was a little more language than most PG films. There were also a few scary moments with some of the Pokémon. There are also themes about loss and death.
Overall, I had fun watching Pokémon Detective Pikachu. If you are a Pokémon fan, this is definitely a movie for you!
