Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dennis Quaid star in Playing for Keeps, a romantic comedy about a charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star (Butler) who returns home to put his life back together. Looking for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, he gets roped into coaching the boy’s soccer team. But his attempts to finally become an “adult” are met with hilarious challenges from the attractive “soccer moms” who pursue him at every turn. — (C) Film District
There are many great movies coming out this season but this movie is the only ‘chick flick’ for the holiday season. Overall, I thought that this movie was cute but it was a bit slow.
For me, the best part of the movie was Gerard Butler. He was perfect for the role of the rugged, former soccer star. I love his Scottish accent and they use this for many jokes in the movie. Women like accents. When he starts to coach his son’s soccer team, there are a couple of kids with some single mothers. This leads to some very funny moments and interactions. I thought he acted well with all his co-stars, especially with Noah Lomax, who plays his son Lewis in the film.
Although the plot is slow and it takes awhile to finally build up the romance with Jessica Biel’s character (which is the whole point of the show) I did have fun watching this movie.
Playing For Keeps is rated PG-13 and is now playing in theaters. For more information about Playing For Keeps, you can go to the movie’s official website.
