I attended an advanced screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced.”-Disney
I love the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I have been so excited to see the latest addition to the series, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES. I had so much fun watching this movie. I definitely think it is one of the better movies in the series.
I am a big Johnny Depp fan and once again I thought he was excellent as Jack Sparrow. I love the quirkiness and silliness that he brings to the film. I absolutely loved the addition of Javier Bardem to the cast as the villain, Captain Salazar. His character was creepy and scary. I thought he was a fantastic villain.
Once again, the visual effects in this movie are pretty impressive. I thought that the dead ghost sailors and Captain Salazar looked really cool and creepy. I had the chance to see the movie in 3D. Some of the effects were pretty neat in this format but I do not feel that this is a must see movie in 3D.
This movie is rated PG-13 “for sequences of adventure violence and some suggestive content.” I thought that the violence was about the same as the previous films. I do think though that this one was a bit scarier and a bit cruder than some of the previous installments of the series. Parents may want to see this film first before taking younger children.
Make sure to stay through the credits for an additional scene at the end of the movie.
