Alright, so you’ve got your brand new vape pen that you are dying to try out, but now you’re bombarded with this vast selection of vape juices. Not only do they come in all of these different flavors, with or without nicotine, and so on –– but they have these different ratios of PG and VG.
What exactly is PG and VG?
By the end of this simple intro, we guarantee you’ll be a pro in figuring out the difference between these two types of e-liquids and be better prepared to find the optimal balance between the two, so you can get to vaping that much faster.
So, without further ado, let’s get started!
The Inside Scoop On PG E-Liquid
If you are looking for an e-liquid that most closely resembles smoking cigarettes, then a primarily PG based juice is the way to go.
PG or propylene glycol is one of the more commonly used bases for vaporizers. It is a little messier than VG and will cause you to burn through your vape juice a bit quicker, However, this serves as a plus since your coils and tanks will require less maintenance in the long-term.
Propylene glycol provides that infamous “throat hit” –– providing a similar feeling to puffing one out in the smoker’s section. It also does well to hold flavor better in e-liquids.
It is worth noting though that some people can have a mild allergy to PG e-liquids so if something doesn’t feel right, switching to a VG based e-liquid (and of course consulting a doctor) would be your best bet.
What is VG?
For those into sub-ohm vaping and wanting something a little softer on the throat, definitely opt for a VG based e-liquid.
Unlike PG, which is a petroleum based, VG or vegetable glycerin, has a vegetable base and is quite the opposite of its PG brethren.
VG is not only sweeter than PG but thicker than PG as well so you can expect more scheduled maintenance for your vape pen due to the buildup of e-juice on your coils and tank.
As well, VG is easier on the throat and better for cloud chasing and the higher grades of vaping. Even better, because of its vegetable bases, it causes less allergic reactions as well.
PG/VG Ratios
Most vape juices come with a ratio of both PG or VG. They can either be higher in one or the othe, or, they can be 50/50 of each.
Choosing the right consistency of both PG and VG in your e-liquid though depends on what you are looking for in your vaping experience. If you prefer your e-liquid to pack a punch, then go PG. If you want something for cloud chasing, then a high VG e-juice will be your go-to.
Another factor to consider is your sensitivity to PG and VG. If you can’t tolerate PG, then it’s best to stick with VG based e-liquids only.
Final Thoughts
If you have chosen e-liquid vaping, then your two biggest decisions are going to be choosing the right vape and choosing the right e-juice. There are a variety of e-liquids to choose from but finding the right one will depend on your preferences and tolerance for PG and VG.
If you want a throat hit and prefer stealth vaping, then a high PG vape juice is going to be your best choice. However, if you want to do vape tricks and prefer a smoother vaping experience, then choose a high VG e-juice to get you going.
Make sure to experiment so you can find the right balance for you.
Good luck!
