I was invited on an all expenses paid trip to cover the ABCTVEvent. All opinions are my own.
ABC’s The Catch is so good! I am loving this new addition to ABC’s #TGIT! The Catch airs on Thursdays at 10/9 c. It is a fantastic story of cat & mouse and Mireille Enos (who plays “Alice Vaughan”) and Peter Krause (who plays “Benjamin Jones”) are so good together in this show!
It was so very cool to get a behind the scenes look at the costume department with Costume Designer Peggy Schnitzer and a set visit tour with Rose Rollins (who plays “Valerie Anderson”).
We started off learning all about the costumes from the show with Peggy, who is so very talented and makes all the actors look so great in the show.
Peggy told us about her costume design for this show, “I try and pair off pieces- little bits of color, that match people. So it all ties in together. I don’t use a lot of prints except maybe on Elvy a little bit, who plays Sophie. And once in a while on Alice. I pretty much stick to solid colors, because I think it works best for this. There’s a lot going on and they (patterns) can be distracting sometimes.” Peggy shared.
Then she shared that her design style for this show isn’t modern day, but more late sixties early seventies inspired. She said, “If I were to do today modern, it’s a lot boxier what’s out now. My esthetic by choice is very sixties early seventies, very sleek. For their bodies I think it looks really well.”
She also shared her dream team are as follows…
“My tailor cutter-fitter extraordinaire is Carlos Zapeda. Leo Castro is the costume supervisor who runs my department. And Anita Cabada is my assistant costume designer who is really is the only person that shops besides myself, but she is really out there finding.”
Lastly, she told us how much she enjoys designing for this show, “It’s very much a designer’s dream, because it’s a great cast, great bodies, great visuals and the story is fantastic. It’s really fun to pair up with the story in terms of the design aspect of it.”
It was so interesting to learn that every single look that is worn in the show is documented in pictures of each cast member wearing the items. Down to every detail, including jewelry. Then it is cataloged into a book for the episode. The book and the looks are all stored just in case they are needed again. Think flashbacks…I had no idea that so much went into the wardrobe end of a show, it is really cool.
We got to see the stunning wedding dress that Alice wore. She is so teeny tiny, look at that waste line! Peggy designed the wedding dress and then with the help of Carlos Zapeda brought it to life. It is dreamy! Peggy told us that she used 1930’s wedding dresses as her inspiration.
Then Rose showed us around the set of Alice’s apartment.
One of my favorite things about being on a set of a show is all of the small details. They just fascinate me.
Of course, it was very exciting to see the stolen Maria Kreyn portrait in Alice’s room. I had to get a photo in front of it.
Rose was so nice to take an individual photo with me, she is so kind in person.
Another cool thing to see was the backdrop of the city. It looks so realistic on TV. Also, seeing the trees, fans that make it look like the wind is blowing outside, and night time city backdrops were cool as well.
Next we got to see the set of the Anderson Vaughan Investigations Office.
It is so cool to be able to watch the show now and say “I’ve been there!”. It is really a neat experience.
Rose sat down at Valerie’s desk and talked with us. She said they were still in filming and would be wrapping the first season on April 29th. She mentioned to us how important it is that you watch the show live or within 3 days if you DVR it. That way the ratings will have good numbers and the show will be more likely to get picked up for a second season. She also shared how she feels working with this cast and crew, “We have a really nice family here, and we want to keep going. We love everyone, it’s one of the nicest work environments that I’ve ever worked in.” Rose said.
I just love this picture (below) because it shows Rose’s fun personality and how fun it was to get to chat with her.
Afterwards we all got a group photo with Rose and Peggy.
Be sure to tune into ABC tonight for The Catch at 10/9c. Did you know if you watch live or on your DVR within 3 days you help boost the shows ratings and help get it picked up for a second season? Even more reason to tune in live! Plus live tweeting the show is fun! #TheCatch #TGIT
Tonight’s episode is 106: “THE BENEFACTOR”
“The AVI team takes on a new client, a female captain in the army, who is being harassed by her colleagues. Meanwhile, Alice makes a play on Ben that could put her in some very serious danger, and both Ben and Margot are shocked when an old friend comes to town.”-ABC
