I am being compensated for this post by “Cans Get You Cooking” for my participation in this campaign as a part of the Mom It Forward Blogger Network.
I personally love to cook with canned food. I like that it has a long shelf life. Did you know that “73% of Americans throw away spoiled fruits and vegetables on average two times a week.” What a waste! Using cans will not only save you money in the long run but it will prevent the wasting of food.
I also love that using canned foods makes it easy for me to throw a delicious dinner together quickly. Now before you say canned foods aren’t as good for you…”According to a University of California, Davis study, many canned fruits and vegetables have the same nutrients as their fresh or frozen counterparts.” So now you can look at canned foods with a new appreciation, as if they grow on trees

Since I enjoy making many dinner’s for my family with canned foods often, I want to share one of my favorite fast and super easy dinner recipes with you.
TACO SOUP
Ingredients:
2 cans of Hormel Chili with Beans
1 can of Del Monte Whole Kernel Corn
3/4 Cup of Salsa or Picante Sauce (or more to taste)
1 lb. ground beef (or turkey)
1 packet of Taco Seasoning
Optional: sour cream, shredded cheese, corn chips
Directions:
Cook ground beef (or turkey) in a skillet pan. Then add the Taco seasoning packet and cook according to the directions on the back of the packet.
While the meat is cooking, add the 2 cans of Hormel chili and the whole can of Del Monte corn (liquid and all) into a medium sized saucepan.
Once the meat is done, add it into the pot. Mix everything together.
Then add your salsa or Picante Sauce. Feel free to add more if you want a stronger flavor.
Mix everything together and warm it over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes stirring occasionally. The consistency will become more like soup as it warms.
We like to top the soup with sour cream and shredded cheese.
We also like to eat it with corn chips, they are perfect for dipping!
I hope your family will enjoy this delicious recipe as much as mine does!
