Here are just a few to choose from for your child’s movie-inspired Halloween costume:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
These are classic Disney character costumes give your child a variety of characters to choose from. Not only is it fun to dress up a group of children as each dwarf character, but you could also dress up along with them as Snow White herself, guiding them along down each street on Halloween night.
Paddington Bear
With the renewed popularity of this character, it will be a popular Halloween costume for any child to dress up in for Halloween. It is an especially cute outfit for a toddler or newborn on their first Halloween. The DIY version is easy to make and can be fitted to a small child or a more grown-up version of this classic bear character.
Monsters, Inc.
Your child will have a variety of characters to choose from to portray on Halloween from this Disney classic film including the main characters of James “Patrick” Sully Sullivan (blue, furry “bear”) and Mike Wazowski (one-eyed green monster). They may also enjoy dressing up as some of the other popularly-known characters in this movie such as Randall Boggs, the purple lizard, and the little girl, Boo, who becomes their friend. Each DIY costume can be constructed for a small child as well as older children with simple tees, cloth paint, and a few simple accessories.
Aladdin
The movie Aladdin has had renewed popularity with the upcoming Broadway show. It also has several classic Disney characters that include Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the well-known Genie character voiced by Robin Williams, and the sidekick bird Iago to the bad guy, Jafar. There is also Aladdin’s partner in all his activities, Abu, the friendly monkey. Any of these costumes can be custom made for children from a variety of patterns and materials.
Despicable Me
In the top ten of most popular children’s films of all time, this movie has an array of characters to choose from for Halloween costume choices. The main characters are Gru, the archvillain, Victor “Vector” Perkins, who is Gru’s arch-enemy, Gru’s scientist, Dr. Nefario, and Miss Hattie, the orphanage caretaker, and of course, all the little minions. All of these costumes can be done with simple materials, hats, and hair designs including wigs that reflect the character that your child has chosen.
Batman
Batman is one of the classic superheroes that children, both girls, and boys, will choose over and over for Halloween. There is also such a wide array of characters to choose from including Batman, Joker, Riddler, and the ever-popular Catwoman costumes, all of these can be homemade in different sizes and varying designs.
Coraline
Coraline is fun Halloween character to create because there are a variety of outfits that your child can choose from that you can easily recreate. This includes a simple yellow rain jacket to simple black jeans with a red and white-striped long-sleeve top. Whichever outfit your child will choose can be topped off with a blue-bobbed wig just like Coraline’s hairstyle, or you can opt to dye or spray your child’s hair the color blue with a non-toxic child safe product from the local salon supply store.
Frozen
This has been one of the most popular Halloween costumes for many children since the movie came out several years ago. It has a few characters that can be easily portrayed for Halloween including the main character, Elsa, as well as her sidekick, Olaf, the snowman, and Elsa’s sister, Anna. The DIY design is simple to follow for each character, and it can be adapted to fit children of varying ages.
