I attended an advanced screening for my review.
MALEFICENT IS NOW PLAYING IN THEATERS!
Let me start by saying I couldn’t wait for Maleficent to come out. Ever since I saw the first preview months ago, I have been counting down the days. I am so happy to let you know that IT DID NOT DISSAPOINT! It was a Fantastic movie!
“"Maleficent" explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty" and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.”-Disney
Angelina Jolie was amazing in this movie! AMAZING! I loved the entire movie from start to finish. She delivered a powerful and beautiful portrayal of Maleficent. When she laughs during the Christening scene she sounds just like Maleficent from the original Disney “Sleeping Beauty”, which I loved. The story was wonderful and not at all what I expected. I really enjoyed hearing the truth about Maleficent and her real story.
I LOVE this movie and will be taking my son to see it in theaters so I can see it again. It will be one that I purchase right when it releases to Blu-ray as well.
I saw Maleficent in IMAX 3D and it as beautiful. They didn’t include the cheesy 3D effects of things flying at you, but instead used the 3D to take you into the enchanted world of fairies and magical creatures. I think it is worth paying extra to see it this way.
My husband saw it with me and enjoyed it as well. He liked that it had a lot more action scenes than expected. I think it is a film the whole family will enjoy.
It does have some loud and scary parts so if your younger kids scare easily you might want to view it first to make sure they can handle it. But it wasn’t as dark or scary as the trailers make it look. I think most kids over the age of 4 will be fine watching it (but use your discretion based on your child).
Maleficent is rated PG “for sequences of fantasy action and violence, including frightening images.” The violence is mainly fighting scenes (throwing people, smashing, hitting).
This is a movie you won’t want to miss! It is worth paying extra for the 3D and IMAX if it is available in your area.
