Charlotte and I were invited by Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake to attend their Little Chicks series of classes, Charlotte was so excited to go! The first class we attended was on Owls.
We arrived and it was storytime! Jenn who runs the Little Chicks Classes was such a delight! She had the kids sit down on little mats with their moms behind them and she read a sweet story about a little owl being woken up by all of the sounds of the animals. Owls of course sleep during the daytime and the animals then were woken up at night with the owls screeches and hooting! It was the cutest story and really taught the kids that Owls sleep during the day. Then Jenn had the little chicks run around to music and freeze dance. Of course they all got out their little birdie wings and flapped them and shaked their tail feathers!
I love that the Little Chicks classes promotes Animal awareness and teaches every week about a different bird! The class actually gets to meet some of the birds that are found in the Tracy Aviary! The next activity after shaking our tail feathers was snack time! Animal crackers and juice boxes! Once the kids were done we all made our way back to the mats and the little chicks were told about how to act around the owl. We needed to be quiet and still and open our little birdie ears and really really listen. Because of course Owls use their keen sense of hearing to catch their food and have wonderful hearing so we didn’t want to startle them.
Charlotte absolutely loved meeting the young owl Barney. Barney was the sweetest owl that actually flew over our heads! It was seriously awe inspiring. Charlotte sat right next to Jenn the class instructor and was holding her hand, she got a little scared with the Owl flew over head! I asked Charlotte later that night what the owls name was and she was able to name Barney!
We also made a cute owl craft, touched owl feathers and sang more songs! I would absolutely recommend these cute classes.
“Bring your little ones to stretch their wings with our educators and birds in Tracy Aviary’s Preschool and Kindergarten classes.
Our classes are offered every week for six weeks. Classes feature a special bird visitor, a fun craft or activity, a snack, a sing-along song, and an engaging story connecting with our age-appropriate themes. All classes are designed for parents to attend and participate with their child.
Classes can be taken in the full series of six or registered for individually. Our goal is to help your child make new friends and develop curiosity and comfort around their amazing bird neighbors, therefore series participation is recommended. Participants registering for the full series of six classes will receive a discount.” (Tracy Aviary website)
