I really love going to movies, I couldn’t wait to review the new movie Labor Day which is out in theaters today.
Kate Winslet plays single Mom Adele who has battled with depression for a long time and her sweet son Henry played by Gattlin Griffith is the one who has stayed around to help his Mom. Labor Day takes place in a small town, where everyone knows everyone and they all know your business too. One Day Henry is doing their monthly shopping with his Mom who rarely gets out of the house and he meets a man who asks for a ride and that’s when their lives change forever. Henry meets Frank (played by Josh Brolin) who turns out to be an escaped convict and is on the run and looking to escape. Frank makes it to their home and they realize he is something special.
My favorite part is when Henry actually gets to be a kid because Frank is helping to make his Mom Adele happy. Henry goes to the library and actually meets a friend who happens to be a girl! Frank may be holding the family hostage but it’s all to keep him and them safe. He turns out to be just what Adele and Henry need.
The little family of Henry and Adele soon realize that the Labor Day weekend is one of the best that they have had in a long time and it will forever change their lives.
““Thirteen-year-old Henry Wheeler struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother, Adele, while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives” (Labor Day Website)
My friend and I both really enjoyed this movie. Now I wouldn’t say that this is a feel good movie because their are some sad and odd thing that happen. But I will say that we really enjoyed the acting and subtleties of humor that were added in. We laughed and I almost cried and we had a great time.
Labor is PG-13 and was directed by Jason Reitman. This is a great movie to see as a date night or with your friends!
