Having your hands full with bored kids every weekend and summer vacation can grow frustrating. Of course, you want them to have a good time and every now and then you simply need them out of your hair.
TV and board games can only go so far, and sometimes you need to pull out the big guns to make sure everyone is entertained for a few hours. If you’re stumped on what to do to keep your little ones busy, here are a few fun ideas that you could try for something a little different next weekend.
Arts And Crafts Days
Planning out a day of cutting, pasting, sticking, twisting, stitching, painting, tearing and moulding is sure to be a hit with your kids, especially little ones.
You could shop online specifically for craft kits for girls or boys, or pop into a local store and stock up on basics – either option will create hours and hours of fun. Be sure to look for some DIY crafts ideas online like creating candles, art, and many crafts.
Backyard Water Slide
Being cooped up indoors all day is no fun for anyone under the age of 18. Some fun in the sun is an absolute requirement over the weekend, but that doesn’t mean you need to head out and find somewhere fancy to spend your weekend.
Purchasing an inflatable water slide or a slip ‘n slide for your kids is a great investment that will pay dividends for years. Think hours of squealing fun outside, water fights, splashing around to cool down in the summer heat. Cut up some watermelon and pineapple and let them have the time of their lives.
Rainy Day Baking
Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always permit for an easy escape to the outdoors for some weekend fun. When it’s rainy, snowy or windy and your children have no interest in leaving the house, whip out your flour and whisk and spend the day baking together for some sweet, messy fun.
Create the perfect batch of cookies, decorate cupcakes in rainbow colours or even try to come up with your own recipes – who knows what creative goodness you might come up with.
Scavenger Hunts
Setting up a scavenger hunt is a great way to stimulate and engage your kiddos in a way that’s fun and exciting. You can make it as simple or complicated as you please, using simple instructions or silly riddles to guide the kids to find the objects on their list.
This is a great activity to include at birthday parties as well, where you can split the kids into teams and offer a grand prize to the winning team. A little competition is healthy (as long as they know it’s just for fun) and they’ll love the feeling of accomplishment when they find what they’re looking for.
