Medical science has advanced so much today, with new inventions and discoveries being made almost every day to save human lives.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a procedure that aims to derive tissues from your own body to heal wounds or injured tissues. This process is regarded to be extremely safe and natural and can produce wonderful benefits.
In a study conducted, nearly 84% of patients who were given PRP treatment claimed to see a 25% reduction in pain. So how do you make sure that the PRP treatment you are receiving gives you great results too? Here are some useful tips.
1. Don’t consume addictive substances
PRP or not, habits like smoking, drinking, or consuming drugs can seriously affect your health. Before or after any medical procedure, you must never indulge in these addictive substances, and PRP is no exception. Smoking especially affects the outcome of a PRP treatment and reduces the volume of PRP.
Further, the toxins present in these substances hamper your cells’ ability to function properly. So even if the treatment has gone smoothly, you might not see satisfactory results after the procedure if you intake cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs.
2. Exercise
This specifically refers to some high-intensity cardio exercises (such as rowing). When you perform cardio, your body is pumped up, and your cells are extra active. This helps to produce more red blood cells and a much stronger immune system.
Your blood, therefore, provides you with more PRP that benefits you, and you have higher chances of seeing positive results. You can even enjoy other benefits like greater energy and stamina. So remember to do a bit of cardio in the morning or afternoon to improve your PRP results.
3. Eat foods rich in Vitamin B9
Folate, or Vitamin B9, is a nutrient essential for healthy red blood cells. If you intake the required amount of food items that are rich in vitamin B9, the blood cells that have been newly injected into your body will proliferate much faster.
Unfortunately, many people who have received their PRP treatments forget to take the required amounts of folate in their diet.
When my friend got PRP injections in Melbourne, Australia, the procedures were fairly simple, but the doctor’s advice was to eat healthily. Some of the folate-rich foods are spinach, rice, orange juice, black-eyes peas, and beef liver.
4. Avoid platelet-reducing foods
Just as it’s important to have foods that enhance your platelet formation, it’s equally important to stay away from foods that have a negative effect on your PRP procedure.
For example, stay away from items like cow’s milk, alcohol, tonic water, and cranberry juice. While cow milk and tonic water can generally be considered healthy items, they might not be ideal for someone who has undergone a PRP treatment.
5. Take a bovine colostrum supplement
In order to improve your PRP results, you can use certain supplements. For example, bovine colostrum is one such supplement that studies have found to be useful.
Bovine colostrum has a rich concentration of proteins that makes it easier to activate platelets. The Platelet Disorder Study Association mentions bovine colostrum if someone is looking to increase their platelet count.
However, make sure to have a chat with your doctor before you start having this supplement and know if there are any possible side effects or not.
6. Hydrate yourself
This is another extremely important point for staying healthy before or after your procedure. Hydrating yourself is one of the best ways to ensure that your blood flow is smooth and platelets are properly activated.
If you live in a temperate climate, the average amount of water that should be taken is about 3.7 liters (for males) or 2.7 liters (for women). If you drink enough water, the different physiological processes in your body will also be smooth, which will show better results in the post-PRP phases.
Over to you…
Undergoing a PRP procedure is a common phenomenon these days. But only doing the procedure isn’t enough- there are many things you need to be careful about after it’s complete. Try to be honest when it comes to your lifestyle and be healthy. The SELPHYL® System is designed for the safe and rapid preparation of Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) from a small sample of blood at the patient point of care. Many PRP systems require operator skill, have varying results and have extensive contamination with red blood cells and white blood cells.
Communicate freely with your doctor and let them know even if you have the slightest bit of discomfort or side effects. Take the post-procedure advice seriously and follow them. Through your diet and actions, you can see lovely results after your PRP treatment!
