Have you ever thought about the emotional intelligence of your child? This is one issue that has gained a lot more notoriety in the last few years. There is a very good reason for this; experts have started to realize that the ability to control your emotions is actually more important than any other item in basic education.
What Is Emotional Intelligence
Unsurprisingly emotional intelligence is linked to the ability to control and use emotions. Every child should be able to identify emotions in themselves and in others. They should also be able to express them properly and learn to control them; it is not always suitable to blurt your emotions out.
Star Academy Kids is one place which turns your child into an emotionally intelligent and well-adjusted child.
Teaching Emotional Independence
It is never too soon to start teaching emotional intelligence; the following tips should help to get your child started in the right direction:
- Recognize Emotions
Just as you are aware of anger, sadness and other emotions it is important to make sure your child is. It is likely that they can see your reaction and mimic it. This means you need to think about your own anger too.
An important lesson at this stage is that your child never makes you angry; this is something you do to yourself. It is important your child understands the difference; in fact, many adults don’t fully appreciate the difference!
Learning about their emotions will help them to deal with situations right through their lives. Gaining an understanding of their emotions will also help them to control them in the future.
Don’t forget to share happy emotions as well!
- Moods
It is a good idea to talk to your child to as much as possible. This will ensure they are exposed to many different emotions. Most important you can ask them how they feel.
There isn’t a right or wrong answer to the question! It is simply an opportunity for them to learn what happy/sad or excited feels like. By developing their range of emotions at different venues they will be better prepared to deal with their own emotions and choose activities that they enjoyed.
- Empathy
It is important that your child is able to see how other people react to things and to emphasize with those emotions. This will allow them to be aware of other’s moods. The ability to have empathy will help them to make decisions which are right for themselves and their friends or co-workers.
The easiest way to do this is to talk about your emotions and their emotions as often as possible.
Emotional intelligence is an often underrated skill which should be taught to all children. It can help their decision-making process and also help them to accept that you have their best interests at heart; which will make your life much easier!
It will also ensure they can decide what they want to do with their lives and how it will affect the other people involved.
