Seeking a fresh start, newly divorced Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) and her daughter Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen, Sarah and Elissa learn the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret. Years earlier, in the house next door, a daughter killed her parents in their beds, and disappeared – leaving only a brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot), as the sole survivor. Against Sarah’s wishes, Elissa begins a relationship with the reclusive Ryan – and the closer they get, the deeper they’re all pulled into a mystery more dangerous than they ever imagined. — (C) Relativity
I will admit, horror movies are not my thing. I wanted to see this one though because Jennifer Lawrence was in it.
Jennifer Lawrence does a pretty decent job in this movie. I will admit though, as I was watching it, I was thinking about her as Katniss. I think since doing Hunger Games, she is going to have a hard time getting people to recognize her for other characters. Jennifer actually sings quite a bit in this movie. She has a very pretty voice. She is also one tough chick in this movie. She is definitely not going to let the villain of this movie get her.
As a horror movie, it is your typical horror film. There are a few moments that make you jump and there is a somewhat unexpected twist at the end. There is not really a huge amount of gore. It is milder in this area than other horror films I have seen.
So if you a fan of the horror genre, this is probably a movie that you will want to see.
