I am always looking for fun games to play with my kindergarteners at school.  I especially love games that help students with their literacy skills and help teach them words.  Pop for Word Families from Learning Resources is an excellent game for this!

First of all, I love the packaging for this game.  It comes in a popcorn shaped box.  I love that it is small because it does not take up a lot of space.  The instructions are also printed on the side of the package.  I am always losing instructions so that makes my life a lot easier.

This game is very simple to play.  A player picks a popcorn card out of the box and spins a spinner.  The spinner indicates how many words need to be said with the ending on the card.  If the player get the correct number of words, they keep the card.  If not, it is put to the side.  The big surprise here are the “POP” cards.  If they are picked, the player has to put all their popcorn cards back into the box.  You keep playing until the box is empty.  Once the box is empty, the person with the most cards wins.

I love that Pop for Word Families helps students with reading and making small words.  It makes the children think about words they know.  I also like that it is also great practice for rhyming as well.  I am very excited to use it in my classroom.  Many of my students are now understanding rhyming, sounds, word families, and more.  This is a game that I know my students will enjoy.

Pop for Word Families would be an excellent game to have in your home.  It is great for helping your child learn new words, learn reading skills, and for rhyming practice.
