The ultimate goal is to make your bedroom aka your haven, your safe space, completely serene and peaceful. You want a place where you relax and recharge, where you can tuck yourself in and let the worries waste away. Keep in mind that we are merely providing you with a basis to start with — the theme, the mood, and the rest are all up to you.
Feel free to improvise any way you see fit! Whether it’s contemporary furniture (Sydney has so much to offer!) or brand new renovations, you are one step closer to your dream space.
Declutter
The first step to achieving a fresh and stress-free space is to get rid of the clutter that’s muddling up the place. Take a look at the things you own, figure out which ones you want to keep and which ones you can donate, sell, or throw out. Not only is it going to free up so much space that you didn’t know you have, it’s also a very therapeutic practice that you’ll surely want to repeat.
Before we even realize it, our messes often start to accumulate, eventually leading to chaos. A clean space has been proven to be congruent with better moods and reduced stress levels. Take a page from the minimalists’ page and start decluttering before anything else.
2. Make some sketches
Before you start to move things around, you better know where they’re going first. You can do this by drawing out a few concepts first. They don’t have to be perfect, they don’t even have to look all that artistic — just put your vision on paper so you have a better sense of what you want your bedroom to look like.
This will help you figure out what goes where, which pieces look good with one another, and you can even try out a few different versions (maybe even mix and match too!) to see which one speaks the most to you. After all, you don’t want to exhaust yourself too soon from lifting and moving around your furniture without accomplishing anything in the end.
3. Move the bed first
Speaking of moving around furniture, first things first, find the most ideal spot for your bed. It is the bedroom and therefore, the star of the show! We suggest placing it against the largest wall space of the room. However, it depends on the orientation of the area and the overall style that you’re going for. You never know, this might be a great source of creativity for you!
4. Go from big to small
Once you’ve found a place for your bed, it’s time to put everything else in their place. To make things a little easier for you, try going from big to small. And by that we mean, after the bed, start working on the closet or cabinets, then move to the bedside table or desk, then if any, the chairs or shelves. The last part will be the small pieces such as mirrors, lamps, cushions, and more.
5. Tie the room together with a rug
A rug will really give a great finishing touch to the room. It’s a great way to best represent your personal style without steering too far away from the theme you’ve envisioned for your safe space. Its placement will make a whole lot of difference as well, so you can try a few different styles in a few different spots and see which one you like best!
