Whether it is your first child, or you already have children, a baby shower is a great way to celebrate the pending birth of your baby.
If you are in need of activities to complete at a baby shower, these tips to plan your baby shower will help you plan your special day.
Bring A Book
The bring-a-book ritual has been a mainstay at baby showers for decades. It involves every guest bringing a gift, in the form of a children’s book, as a present for the baby.
It is a great way for guests to be able to contribute to the new child’s life and bring them something before they are even born. They get to choose a book they like or a book that they think the child will like, and then make a dedication or inscription in the book, to the new baby.
For new parents, this activity is only lovely to see all the books chosen and comments made by guests, but a great way to start building their children’s book library.
Children’s books can be expensive, so getting help from guests to build that library as early as possible is of huge assistance.
Diaper Raffle
The Diaper Raffle is a quintessential baby shower game. Typically, baby shower guests will bring packets and boxes of nappies and diapers as gifts for the family to minimize the financial burden of needing to purchase so many nappies in those early months, and the game involves everyone taking out one of these diapers that they bought, writing their name on it, in texta, then placing it into a box, or container.
Once everyone has placed a name on a diaper and put it in the container the pregnant mother picks out one diaper at random to reveal the winner of the game.
There are many different things that can be given to the winner, or things bestowed upon them, like a special experience, or task they must complete.
Your imagination is the only limit to what you can do with this fun, baby-themed game.
Guessing Game
Baby shower games are a great way to have fun and get all the guests mingling with each other. The guessing game, as it sounds, is all about guessing the physical characteristics of the unborn baby.
You can decide what you particularly want to include in the game including gender, length, and weight, and then get as creative as you want in terms of other measurements, but they are the main ones.
You can choose whether to get everyone to write this down on an individual piece of paper and place it into a bowl, or box, but in many cases, it is easy to have a piece of paper with lines and columns on it and have everyone complete one line each. This makes it much easier to see who was the closest, the quickest.
You can have different prizes for those who correctly guessed each characteristic, plus an overall prize for those who got multiple things right, or who was the ‘rightest’ overall.
Journal of Inspiration
Having a baby, and bringing a new child into your life for the first time, or second or third time can be overwhelming. What can be of great reassurance are words of encouragement from your friends and family.
A Journal of Inspiration is a Journal you have at the baby shower, and you get everyone to write some nice words inside, specifically words of encouragement they would like to share.
Then, any time they are struggling, the new mum can find this journal and spend a few minutes reading the inspirational words and remember they are not alone and are surrounded by loved ones.
Onesie Art
As the name suggests, onesie art is where everyone takes turns decorating onesies to give to the pregnant mother. This is a very popular baby shower game.
You can have a ‘decoration station’ set up with all sorts of fabric textas and paints, and ask everyone to create their own individual onesie design to give to the new baby. You can get a range of onesie sizes, and similar to the books we discussed earlier, they are a great way to fill the wardrobe of a new baby, reducing the financial strain on the family who are expecting the baby.
Then every time they get one of these onesies out, they will connect that with the memory of the baby shower.

Alphabet Sketching
Alphabet sketching is another ‘coloring in’ game where you print out patterns of the alphabet, and basic numbers, and then have party guests, color in the designs and make patterns.
You can create multiple templates for each letter and number and just choose the best design, or create singles.
Once the designs have been completed they can be connected to a string and then tied around the nursery of the new baby.
Final Thoughts
These activities are a small sample of the hundreds of different things you can do at a baby shower. When planning, make sure you incorporate the preferences and values of the mother of the unborn baby in your planning, to make it a special day for all.
