I attended an advanced screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) comes the epic adventure “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.” (c) Fox
I have been looking forward to seeing Exodus: Gods and Kings. I thought the trailers made it look like an epic retelling. After watching it, I thought it was a decent movie but it was not as mind blowing as I thought it was going to be.
I felt that the storyline followed the basic Bible story but the filmmakers definitely took some creative liberties with the story. I do not think that they made any significant changes that will make any of the viewers angry but they did not follow the Bible exactly. One thing that I wish the filmmakers would have done better was making Moses a more active player in what was happening in the storyline. My husband and I felt he was more of an observer instead of an activist.
The visuals in this movie were pretty amazing. It definitely had an epic look to it. The visual effects that I liked the most were the ten plagues. I thought they were done well and looked great. I saw the movie in 3D at my screening and I thought the 3D was done well but I do not think it is a must see in 3D.
Do I think Exodus: Gods and Kings is the new better version of The Ten Commandments? No, the classic is much better and definitely more epic but this new movie is a decent retelling of the bible story.
