As a kid, I remember telling people I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. Somehow life and practicality got in the way and I ended up with a business degree. All along the way, I never stopped creating new things. Over the years people would always ask me when I was going to open up my own store. It wasn’t until both my kids went to college that I began to think I might have the time to do so.

My time spent decorating my kids’ bedrooms is something I remember fondly. The anticipation and planning made it so memorable. That’s why my store, Ethel’s Granddaughter, is focused on items for nurseries. I love thinking about the things I create being a part of that anticipation associated with waiting for a new family member to arrive.

And of course, everyone always wants to know why I named my shop Ethel’s Granddaughter. My “Grandma Far Away” lived over 500 miles from me when I was a child. She would mail packages to my sister and I filled with beautiful handmade dresses and sweaters. Even then I knew those clothes were special because they were made with love. That’s exactly how my items are made also. So often everything you find in a store feels like it was mass produced in a factory. My items are designed and handcrafted only by me, in the home studio you see pictured here. Some are truly one of a kind and the rest are created in limited quantities. I enjoy every part of the process and take my time working on each item. I have items available for immediate purchase or I can design something custom for a little one. My hope is to create quality items which will be cherished for a lifetime.

Is there anything more fun and exciting than decorating a nursery? While we wait (im)patiently for baby, we can busy our hands with beautiful decorations to welcome baby home. Even though my days of a nursery are long gone, I was still so excited to receive two of Cindy’s from Ethel’s Granddaughter gorgeous handmade nursery decor art pieces!! They work perfectly for seasonal decorating too, which I love to do.

How pretty are they? I just love them both. I also love that they are handmade with love. I love shopping on Etsy because I enjoy supporting people who have an amazing craft to share, much like Cindy! It feels so much better then running to a mega-store for something that isn’t unique whatsoever. Cindy makes one-of-a-kind or just a few of each item, so you know they are all very special. The quality of her work is fab, both the gorgeous heart plaque and the bunny canvas are well put together, and even more beautiful in person than a picture can capture. And she’s so sweet- working with her has been great, and I know she would be super wonderful to work with if you are looking for something custom made.
