I attended an advanced screening of this film. All opinions are my own.
“Inspired by true events, Eddie the Eagle is a feel-good story about Michael “Eddie” Edwards (Taron Egerton), an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself – even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach (played by Hugh Jackman), Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.”- 20th Century Fox
I love inspirational sports films. I have been very excited to see Eddie the Eagle. I was not very familiar with the story that this was based on. I was only 3 when the 1988 Olympics occurred. My husband and I loved this movie.
Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman were fantastic as the 2 main roles. Taron Egerton is so charming as the main role of Eddie. He definitely made you cheer and fall in love with the character. There are other characters in this movie but the story really focuses on Eddie and his coach.
Although it has the familiar sport movie story about defying the odds, I liked how inspirational this movie was. A main focus of the movie is not giving up on yourself and having a passion about something. No matter what he was told, Eddie never gives up on his Olympic dream. This movie made me happy the whole time I watched it. This movie, surprisingly, has a lot more humor in it than I was expecting. You laugh a lot watching this film.
This movie deserves its PG-13 rating. There is some partial nudity and some sexual situations and talk. Most children will not understand what the characters are talking about but it would probably be best to not take little kids. This would be a great movie to leave the kids home and have a great date night with your spouse. It is a movie that both of you will enjoy.
I loved Eddie the Eagle and recommend it!
