I attended an advanced screening of this movie. All opinions are my own.
“Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeff Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.”-©Paramount Pictures
I have been very curious about the new Dora movie. I was excited to take my daughter to it. Although this movie is more directed to its younger viewers, I had fun watching Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
I thought this movie had a fun storyline. My daughter and I laughed a lot. My daughter thought that Boots, the monkey, was very silly. I liked that the filmmakers included a lot of nods to the original cartoon in the story. My favorites were that the characters would talk directly to the audience several times during the movie and that Dora made up a lot of silly songs. There is also a very fun animated sequence included in the movie. If you grew up watching the cartoon, you will love all these jokes.
I loved Isabela Moner as Dora. She was perfect in capturing the adventurous and childlike personality of Dora. She was exactly what I would have imagined an older Dora being like in real life.
This movie is rated PG “for action and some impolite humor.” Overall, I thought that this movie was appropriate for most kids. There is some fighting action, some bullying, potty humor (talking about poop) and a brief view of an animated rear end. I thought some of the potty humor was a little ridiculous but many of the kids in my screening were laughing really hard.
I think that Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a fun movie for the whole family to enjoy together. My daughter and I had fun watching it.
