I have been very excited for the Divergent film. I am a big fan of the book. As a fan of the book, I was not disappointed by the movie. Divergent is a really great adaptation of the book.
“Divergent is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader (Kate Winslet) to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.” (C) Summit
There were many things I enjoyed about Divergent. First of all, I thought they did a great job with the cast. Shailene Woodley was perfect as Tris. She showed the strong but vulnerable side of the character of Tris. This movie really is on her shoulders and she handles it very well. I also really enjoyed Theo James as Four. I love the character of Four and I felt like Theo James played him perfectly.
One of the changes from the book is that the villain, Jeanine Matthews is used a bit more. This did not bother me though because she is played by Kate Winslet. I love Kate Winslet and thought that she was great as the villain. There are some different scenes from the book that were not included in the film but it did not matter. I was engrossed in the movie and I loved seeing the Divergent world as I imagined it on the screen. I feel like they made this movie for the fans.
I took my friend with me who has not read the books. She really liked the movie as well. She did say that some parts of the film were confusing for her because she was unfamiliar with the source material. She did say she is looking forward to reading the book series now.
The movie deserves it PG-13 rating. There is some violence and some disturbing deaths in the film. I would leave the little ones home for this one.
I really like Divergent and I am looking forward to the second film in the series.
