Although several government agencies were able to regulate the types of chemicals being mixed in on several personal care products, there are still brands that use toxic chemicals to their beauty products. Because the market is largely unregulated, consumers themselves must make an effort to determine which products are safe to use.
If possible, go for products that are hypoallergenic. This means that such products only use mild cleansing agents. It is free of irritants that can cause skin rashes, itchy skin, harsh on the eyes or those that dries up the skin.
Avoid products that contain parabens. Parabens are known irritants that can also cause itchiness, rashes and irritation. Ideally, go for fragrance-free products. Fragrance-free products are mild on the skin and will not cause headaches, dizziness and similar symptoms as a result of using harsh scents.
Organic personal care products are great because they are virtually chemical-free and very mild on the skin. However, they are more expensive than ordinary soaps, shampoos or facial creams you see in your local beauty stores. But the benefits you will get are definitely worth your money. If you prefer to purchase ordinary personal care products, just make sure to check the labels to distinguish which ones are safe to use and which ones are not.
