At “Prom,” every couple has a story and no two are exactly alike. Several intersecting stories unfold at one high school as the big dance approaches; “Prom” portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite. For Nova Prescott (Aimee Teegarden), it’s a battle of wills as she finds herself drawn to the guy (Thomas McDonell) who gets in the way of her perfect prom. Fellow seniors Mei (Yin Chang) and Tyler (De’Vaughn Nixon) harbor secrets, while others face all the insecurity and anticipation that surrounds one of high school’s most seminal events. There are hundreds of nights in high school, but there’s only one “Prom.” Several intersecting stories unfold at one high school as the big dance approaches; “Prom” portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite.
I was really worried at first about seeing Prom. Watching the trailer, I thought that it would be a cute movie but had potential to be very ‘corny.’ I will admit, Prom was very corny but adorable! I had so much fun watching it.
There were a lot of things that I liked about this movie. I loved how told more than one story. I was worried that the stories would get jumbled and the storyline would be an absolute mess. In the end it worked out very well. My favorite storyline was the one in between Nova and Jesse. It was so cute. Watching the ‘good girl’ and the so-called ‘bad boy’ interacting with each other was funny and sweet. Plus, the guy that plays Jesse (Thomas McDonell) was really cute. I hope to see him in other things.
My other favorite character was Rolo. He is guy who name comes from the candy. He likes them a lot. He made me laugh more than the other characters. He is not ‘all there’ if you know what I mean!
It was fun to watch this movie because it made me think about my own prom in high school. I could relate to some of the things going on. Disney’s Prom was not just a ‘dream prom’ that would never happen in real life. It could actually relate to real people and real situations.
This is a great movie for moms and their girls to see together. I think that boys and dads are not going to be the audience for this movie though. If the boys in your family like Disney’s The Princess Diaries, they would probably like this movie too.
So, overall if you like an adorable but slightly corny movie, Prom is definitely the movie for you!
