As we get older, our ability to live fully independently starts to diminish. Whilst this can be quite troublesome, there are plenty of living options available for seniors, and if you are slightly worried about a loved one who’s living on their own, then it may be best to start thinking about these options. All these options are available within retirement villages and are worth considering if you want a bit of extra reassurance about the safety of your loved one.
Independent Living
The first option within a retirement village is independent living. This means that, whilst your loved one will be surrounded by others who are in a similar position to them and there will also be various carers and people who are first aid trained around, they will essentially be able to live exactly as they are now.
In this case, you may be wondering what the point would be of them having to move elsewhere from a place they have potentially lived their whole life. Even if your loved one can live fully independently, as they get older, their health is going to dimmish, even slightly, and they may be living on their own. If they are in a retirement village, this means that, whilst they can still live independently, there will be others that also live in the village and this means it will be easier for them to get out, socialize, and make new friends.
Assisted Living
The second option is assisted living. This is where whilst your loved one will be able to move into the retirement village and still live somewhat independently. They will have a carer who will come into their home, sometimes once or twice a day, or just as and when they need to, to help your loved one with any of the parts of living they are starting to struggle with.
This is an option with senior living Dallas as well as across the country and is something many people, both residents of retirement villages and their loved ones, are happy with. This is often the first indication for loved ones for them to find a retirement village as they might start to see that their loved one is becoming unable to do even basic daily tasks and may feel that a care home isn’t necessarily the best option for them right now as they still want them to have some form of independence. Regardless, this is one of the options to consider with senior living.
Memory Care
The final option for living in a retirement village is memory care. This is best suited to residents who have some form of dementia. This is often the option that many families will use when their loved one is in the beginning stages of dementia and is also a good idea to choose as they may eventually end up in full-time care, so living in a retirement village that offers memory care is a good in-between stage to help with this transition.
This may mean that the carers will spend more time with these residents, as those with dementia will need a bit more care than those who will be better suited with the independent or assisted living options. It’s not easy seeing your loved one like this, which is why finding them a home that will offer them designated support is important, as it will make it easier and comfier for them and give you better peace of mind about how they’re living.
